The IHC Foundation was formed in 1976 to operate exclusively for the benefit of IHC
The stated purpose is “to guard the heritage of Reform Judaism and to contribute to the education of its members and their families, the spiritual and cultural enrichment of their lives, their appreciation of their roles as good citizens and good Jews, and their responsibility and opportunity to help others, less favorably positioned, all within the scope of the moral doctrines of Judaism.”
“As My Ancestors Planted For Me, So Do I Plant For My Children.”
-The Talmud
The Role of IHC Foundation
The role of the Foundation has been, and will continue to be, a means of receiving and administering gifts, bequests, and endowments in a desire to strengthen and support IHC.
Since 1976, more than $4,000,000 has been donated to the Foundation from generous contributors. The By-laws of the Foundation state that the principal or capital may not be invaded unless authorized by a specific donor or unless its Board of Directors determines an emergency exists. Within these limits, income from the Foundation is given to IHC annually for programming and for special requests.
Foundation Funds
Honor a loved one, commemorate a life cycle event, or thank someone special by donating to one of our many funds or making a general donation to Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation. The congregation will mail a card to the recipient you designate.
Legacy Society
The IHC Foundation invites you to create your legacy to help ensure IHC’s future. There are two ways for you to do this. Join our Legacy Society, which is a group of members who have made a commitment to IHC in their wills and/or estate plans, or donate to the IHC Foundation. The Foundation wishes to ensure a strong future for our Temple, and our Planned Giving Initiative is doing just that. The larger the Foundation, the more it can give to the annual budget of the Temple, helping with expenses and keeping dues at a reasonable level. The second way is through our Life & Legacy Partner Program with the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
