Welcome to the congregation’s library where the doors are always open! We encourage you to browse and borrow. Our collection contains approximately 9,000 Jewish books and reading materials for all ages.
HOURS: The library is open whenever the building is open. The librarian is available on most weekdays and from September to May on Sundays, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. during Religious School.
BORROWING AND RETURNING BOOKS: We operate on an honor system and appreciate your cooperation. ADULT books may be borrowed for three weeks and can be renewed. CHILDREN’S and YOUTH books may be borrowed for two weeks and are renewable with the permission of the Librarian. REFERENCE books may not be taken out of the building. The charge for VHS/DVD rentals is $2 per item/per week.
CATALOGUE: The Library has a computerized catalogue system.
PROGRAMMING: The annual Book Fair, monthly Jewish Book Club, and a Reading Incentive Program co-sponsored with the Religious School highlight each year.
BOOK DONATIONS: Many congregants have Judaica collections they wish to give to the library. Currently we are unable to accept most donated books. Please consult the Librarian for further details.
FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Contributions to IHC for books to honor a friend or relative, or to remember a loved one, may be sent to the Joseph Cantor Fund (general books) or to the Benjamin X. Cohen Fund (research books). In addition, the Children’s and Youth sections sponsor a Birthday Book Club for donations to honor a child’s birthday.
LIBRARY COMMITTEE: Congregants are welcome to join the Library Committee. Meetings to discuss library policies and operations are held four times each year. Our members represent a variety of library interests and needs. Evelyn Pockrass - Librarian (255-6647, x217, [email protected]).
