Holiday Celebrations

Our congregation celebrates Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Hanukkah, Tu Bishvat, and Purim with special worship and, for many of these celebrations, special festive dinners. On the evening of Shavuot, we celebrate Confirmation with a service created by and for our special 10th-grade students. Following the Confirmation, we mark Shavuot with Torah study and a cheesecake/kugel bake-off.

IHC celebrates the holy days and holidays with a variety of services and opportunities. It is always best to consult the IHC calendar for exact dates, times, and locations of any celebration.

Holidays and Festivals – Shlosh Regalim (Pesach, Shavuot, Sukkot)

Services are held the first and last days of the festivals at 10:30am. On the last day, Yizkor is included in the service.

Simchat Torah

On Simchat Torah, the music is led by the 65th Street Klezmorim, our house Klezmer band, and the Torah scrolls are unrolled for all to see. The minor holidays and festivals are celebrated in a variety of ways.

Hanukkah

Hanukkah is generally celebrated at home, but often there is a Shabbat dinner on the Friday night of Hanukkah.

Purim

On Purim there is children’s Purim shpiel and IFTY carnival and on the evening of Purim we hold an adult Purim celebration.

Yom Hashoah and Yom Ha’atzmaut

Yom Hashoah and Yom Ha’atzmaut are commemorated or celebrated with the Greater Indianapolis Jewish community.
